Thanks to modern technology we already have at our disposal a wide range of renewable energies that will allow us to stop consuming any type of carbon fuel, dramatically reducing the environmental damage being caused to the planet.
Of these technologies, the most accessible is Solar Electricity or Solar PV (Photovoltaic), the generation of electricity from Sunlight, utilising Solar Panels. Plenty of electricity is generated in daylight hours and any excess electricity can then be sold back to the national grid for a profit to you. At night, when the panels are not generating, any required electricity can be drawn from the grid.
Thanks to the current government incentives, the system owner is paid for ALL of the electricity their system generates, including any consumed by the system owner themselves. If a system is operational before March 2012, 41.3p is paid per kilowatt produced. Anything sold back to the grid earns 3p extra per kW.
Of course, there is a cost to install a system but on the plus side, it fully pays for itself within 10 years. Prices range from £7500 going up to around £20000 depending on your requirements.
Solar Thermal Systems heat domestic hot water.
An average system costs between £3500 and £12000. By providing (in some cases) 70% of all required hot water, it achieves substantially reduced household bills.
In April 2012 the government launches the RHI payments scheme to calculate payments for all hot water produced by the system. It is likely to be an annual income of between £350 and £400.
